Exit 8 Movie Review

What if you stuck in a metro exit and keep looping to the same location again as you try to walk to any direction? In this Japanase movie, it is the core story on reflection of taking responsibility and making hard decision.

The post won't give full spoiler but please continue if you don't really care about the movie or fine to watch it not from a blank slate.

The whole 1.5 hours movie shot was taking in corridor of metro station of exit 8 where the main character, a man who just recently broken up with his girlfriend but then get a news that he will become father as the woman unexpectedly pregnant. So the stuck on the exit 8 seems reflection of decision making on whether he should take the responsibility or just running away.

The exit 8 has a rule. As the walking the exit attempting to really go out from a metro, he will encounter anomalies. The rule are never ignore anomaly, if you see anomaly, go back. Anomaly can be in the form of strange thing happen in the corridor. Blood dripping. Poster of women whose eyes following you. Scarry rat. And many others. Slightly feel make the movie a bit horror but not so much.

Following the rule successfully will lead the man to the banner showing exit n, where n is increasing number for every success attempt. Example after 5 times successfully following the rule, the exit sign shown as Exit 5. But if a mistake is made, the exit sign reset to Exit 0 again.

In the loop stuck actually appear a different character which later was shown as another people who also stuck in the loop. Some characters show relationship with the man while others seem just random character. Has the man ever go out from exit 8? What decision he will take with regard of his coming son?

I always like interesting movie plot. But I think this would end only 7/10 for me. Interesting but I still feel there are plenty of things that can make it great but it is not there yet.
